Magazine Perfume Samples, Just a Fragrance Idea!

24 Aug

20130825-080640.jpg

Catching up on my reading on the many Style and Design magazines yesterday; I don’t know why this suddenly became a visual to me!

Did you know there are at least four to six perfume samples in a magazine?

Hoping that you love the ad, bottle, style and pull the tab to smell! If you love it, you’ll buy it!

Well I’ve tried about four (J’Adore, Chloe, Modern Muse and Daisy).  I’m loving Daisy by Marc Jacobs !  I love gardenia, so I instantly picked up the fragrance of them.  By lifting up the tab and allowing the scent to capture my attention with no pressure, I can make an honest decision on the fragrance.  Which has violet leaves, ruby red grapefruit, gardenia, violet petals, jasmine petals, musk, vanilla and white woods.

So I tore gently the ad with the sample and placed in my bag, as a reminder to go to the mall.  Forgetting about it, I was receiving a lot of compliments while waiting on line to pay for an item at the drugstore (my bag was open).

“What are you wearing, it smells nice?” The fragrance was softly lingering from my bag!

So I got really great reviews and a free bag freshener !  Now I’m not saying if you put a sample in your bag; wait to get feedback!!!! I just reminding that the perfume ad samples are there for you to use to make a decision for purchasing and other ways too! 🙂

  • Place in your lingerie dresser draw.
  • Place in your car under the seat!
  • Attach to your air filter to carry the scent throughout the house

Only if you really like it!!!!!!!!  Let me know, if you have ever selected a fragrance, simply by testing the sample in a magazine, which one and did you buy it?

By the way, I did buy Daisy by Marc Jacobs and I’m very pleased!!!!!  See, the magazine perfume sample did exactly what it was supposed to do!  It smells absolutely wonderful!  There are other fragrances under the Marc Jacobs entourage, so when you get a chance; test them out when you are exploring the samples you’ve collected!   Some how this ended up being a review on Daisy!!!   Have fun!

Summer Lunch, Quick & Easy Shrimp Scampi!

12 Aug

Napkin Sparkling

A lot of entertaining lately! I am really enjoying myself! So much fun to be with friends; where we can catch up, laugh and be comfortable! I am usually on the go, but somehow my planned trip to Europe was pushed back, allowing the month of August to be a wonderful entertaining month!

Now I will admit that I am not the world’s greatest cook; but I find if the recipe that is simple….then I can pull it off! If the recipe has a whole lot of measuring, stirring, braising; etc. then that’s not for me! If attempted, it would be a certified disaster; although the intention was with love!IMG_0873

So that being said, I got some ideas from reading the Facebook page Italian CIty Girl, from my new blogger friend Rita Christine! <her family pictures are wonderful>!

I decided to have a menu that was real easy, but very tasty for my dear friends coming for a beautiful Saturday lunch for five. I wanted the meal to have lots of flavor, set the mood to relax, drink and eat some more! So what food does that? Pasta! But you must have something to go nicely with the pasta, so I chose Shrimp Scampi to top it off!

IMG_0880

Starting off with a platter with olives, assorted capocollo, grapes, dates, various cheeses with an assortment of crackers; that’s simple.

A nice green salad with an Italian vinaigrette dressing; simple again!

Artisan rolled Italian bread and 9 grain miniature loaf, all sliced and warmed so butter would be welcomed when spread on top! Yep!

The shrimp scampi, I made the night before – so the seasoning and aromatic flavors would be readily to go with the pasta; that I planned to make within 10 minutes of their arrival the next day. I chose a thin pasta, freshly made by Flour City Pasta! While I was cooking, I was patting myself on the back; many times due to I was enjoying myself with a couple glasses of wine! 🙂

Back to the menu…..

A nice bottle of Pinot Noir, fresh peach iced tea and the staple Pepsi soda with lemon were the choices for beverages!Beautiful Peach Ice Tea!

Everyone had a wonderful time, the lunch was so nice and it was beautiful summer day; about 82 degrees. The only thing is, there wasn’t enough room for a great finish with the planned coffee and red velvet cake; which I brought from Costco!! No one could eat another thing!

Here’s the recipe for the Shrimp Scampi!Shrimp Scampi by Letia Mitchell LifeStyle & Design LLC

INGREDIENTS

Ingredients for Shrimp Scampi

  • 1 pound large (16-20 count) shrimp, shelled* and de-veined, tail-on for presentation if you want
  • Salt
  • 3-4 garlic cloves, slivered, or 1 Tbsp minced garlic
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon of chopped shallots
  • 1 tablespoon of bell peppers
  • 2-3 tablespoons butter
  • 2 tablespoons finely chopped parsley
  • 1/2 cup white wine
  • 1/2 to 1 teaspoon red pepper flakes
  • Freshly ground black pepper to taste
  • 1 Tbsp lemon juice

* Whether you prepare the shrimp shell on or off is really up to you. Cooking the shrimp with the shells still on will impart more flavor, but they are much messier to eat. Shelling the shrimp before cooking them will make the shrimp a lot easier to eat and you can save the shells for shellfish stock if you want.

METHOD

1 Heat a sauté pan on high heat. Reduce the heat to medium-high and add the olive oil and butter. Once the butter melts, foams up and subsides, add the garlic and red pepper flakes. Sauté for a minute, or until you see the edges of some of the garlic just beginning to brown.

2 As soon as the garlic begins to brown, add the shrimp to the pan. Then add the white wine and stir to combine and coat the shrimp with the butter, oil, and wine. Spread the shrimp out in an even layer in the pan. Increase the heat to the highest setting and let the wine boil vigorously for 2-3 minutes.

3 Turn the shrimp over, or toss them so the cooked sides are mostly facing up, and boil the wine for another minute. Remove from the heat, add the parsley and toss to combine. Add the lemon juice and black pepper.

TIP: I had two pounds of shrimp, so I prepared the above recipe two times, so I did not compromise the flavor!

Peaches! Peaches! A Summer Peach Iced Tea!

11 Aug

Peaches!Yesterday morning while preparing lunch for my friends coming later in the day, I’d got a call from my girlfriend Sandra about my iced tea!

She had attempted to make the ice tea and her daughter told her…”This doesn’t taste like Ms. Letia’s!”

Not to say in the least that my girlfriend was just a little annoyed with the fact, her daughter wasn’t appreciative of her attempt!  With my gentle reply, I said keep the tea you’ve already made, you can incorporate it in the the new batch, you are going to make with me!  For luckily I was just in the process of making some and brought her through step by step!   So while as I was making the tea, I said let me also share with you all too! 🙂

  1. You can use freshly brewed tea (green, jasmine, Lipton, etc.) or any Ice Tea or even lemonade mix; whatever you prefer!  In a separate pitcher make your tea the way you like it! If you are brewing your tea, the tea should be very well cooled before adding to the peaches! To sweeten the tea, you can use honey, sugar, agave or if you don’t like a sweetened tea; nothing at all!  However, if you are using a mix, read the instructions on how much to use based on the size of your serving pitcher.  What I usually do to make it easier, is to make enough tea to add to the serving pitcher or two, throughout the lunch.
  2. Take 5 ripe peaches (you will know that they are ripe, because of the wonderful smell that they give off)!  If not ripe, using the old fashion trick – place them in a paper bag about two days before you are to use them – that will get them ripe!
  3. Wash the peaches very gently under cold water and pat dry softly with a paper towel, you want to show the pretty skin!
  4. Then take a clear serving pitcher and now begin adding your peaches:
  • I have the pitcher with the funnel in the middle where you put ice (I freeze it) to keep the pitcher cold without compromising the beverage with added water from the ice! You can place the funnel in the freezer the day before you are going to make the peach tea! Otherwise ice cubes to chill per serving, is just fine!
  • You want to cut the peaches in wedges, showing the beautiful red color left from separating the peach from the peach pit! With a fork, take each peach wedge and gently make a perforation and place in pitcher. This will allow the peaches to begin to extract their juices.  Let the wedges sit a bit, while you clean up a bit!

Peaches more... Beautiful Sliced Peaches

Now add your ready-made tea to your serving pitcher and stir about three to four times lightly, this will allow the juice from the peaches to incorporate with the tea! Let sit for about 5 minutes and then serve!

Peach wedges Placed in Pitcher

That’s it! Now once the iced tea is gone and you are left with just the peaches, they can be eaten too! Or you can take a mason jar and add the peaches with your favorite vodka to sit for about a month! This will make a nice peach tea liqueur for a cocktail, like a Peach Tea Martini or Peach Tea Amaretto sour…be creative! Or if you can’t wait that dog-gone long, muddle the peaches for your cocktail drink!!!!! 🙂

Beautiful Peach Ice Tea!

Peach Ice Tea!

Oh! And my girlfriend’s daughter was very happy with the walk through!  LOL!!!!!

Later that day, the lunch I’d prepared was great too!  Everyone enjoyed themselves, can you tell I’m really enjoying the summer!

The whole idea is, if you love peaches…..it is best to enjoy them while they’re in season by either making  a wonderful summer iced tea drink, cocktail or just have the fruit alone <I just thought of vanilla bean ice cream; heading towards the freezer now! Yummy>!!!!!!
