The Awesome DKNY Aliza Licht – Aliza Licht’s Brilliant Guide “Leave Your Mark”!

21 Jun

IMG_2811While visiting my brother in Indiana, I’d finished the next book on my summer book list!

You ever wanted to know what is the best way to land a job?  How about making an assessment of your co-workers and your work environment?

How about not to pat yourself on the back too soon, you have to wait in line for that promotion.  There’s proper etiquette when sending an e-mail!  Or, how do you know when it is time to move on?

All can be found in candid stories and inspirational experiences in this delightful book called Leave Your Mark – Land Your Dream Job.  Kill It in Your Career.  Rock Social Media; written by the beautiful Aliza Licht, SVP of Global Communications for Fashion’s international designer powerhouse – Donna Karan.

You don’t have to be in the Fashion industry; this book can be useful in any field or genre – when it comes to job hunting, being resourceful and working hard is the common denominator.   I’d found myself laughing out loud on how Aliza Licht’s mistakes kind of matched my own job mistakes.  Where I too just wanted to show that I was so resourceful and the pressure was on – only ending up wanting to hide under a rock when I got it all wrong!

Aliza Licht shares her choice of making a hard decision to leave the field that did not make her happy to work in a field that she absolutely and completely loves.  Although the decision involved a lot of soul-searching; her story allows the reader to relate and take a moment to ask the same question!  Reading the book, you will love how she tells the inside scoop on how she captured a 500k Twitter following brilliantly orchestrated for thee @DKNY PR Girl.  Just genius!

She also shares the importance of social media and how/what you post impacts your brand, with warnings on why it should be used responsibly.  No one ever wants to hear that you failed, however Aliza Licht reassures the reader how those failures are so critical in the learning process and can be used in the future to make important decisions correctly.

“In any industry, how you are perceived weighs heavily on your ability to succeed.  If clients don’t like to work with you, you’re not going to get that promotion! Your reputation always precedes you; but the company you work for also contributes to that reputation.  The companies listed on your resume are like badges.  People judge you not only for your skills, but also where you have worked.”

I had the pleasure of meeting Aliza Licht a few months ago at an inspiring luncheon in Manhattan hosted by Lyss Stern, Mom Moguls Breakfast 2015.  Aliza’s book was about to be launched later that evening and here she was just as gracious in sharing about her personal life on being a mother first, work and launching her book.  She was amazing!!

AlizaLicht Leave Your Mark

I don’t want to give too much away about the book!  Please add Leave Your Mark by Aliza Licht to your summer read; you won’t be disappointed at all.  It can also be a nice gift to a person who would needs guidance in today’s job hunting.  And I might add, it’s the #1 New Release by Amazon.com! 🙂

Winnie Harlow! Proud of the Skin She’s In…..NYFW Excitement Indeed!

16 Feb

Yes, she was on America’s Next Top Model!  However, it is so much more than that! WinnieHarlowAMTM

Canadian model Winnie Harlow has risen above of all critics that fashion cannot change!  Or ONE cannot be accepted!

I am so happy that the door has been open even wider for this beautiful lady.  Her skin condition Vitiligo is not stopping her; its the one thing that makes her beautifully unique!

Winnie Harlow Presented as New Desigual Face for the Spring-Summer 2015 Campaign "Say Something Nice"An encouragement to young girls, that the stigma to go under a microscope of certain beauty and size rules don’t always apply.  So the box “are you different?” can be checked proudly!

Winnie shares that her childhood consisted of ridicule and bullying.  Her resilience persevered, where today you have a stronger, more confident 19 year old young lady!

Winnie’s Instragram followers are proof, displaying photos of her everyday life…that it is OK to be different and shares to the those unaware to look beyond the  Vitiligo. Her thoughts below in her YouTube video.

Desigual has gotten it right!  Winnie Harlow is part of their SS 2015 campaign and setting the bar high!

You may recall Michael Jackson had the skin disease and Tamar Braxton, who also has it – often talks about it on her show, The Real.  We are seeing examples of it with everyday people.

As we become more educated, we will become more conscious of our reaction.  Winnie has been inspirational in that change!  She was on the NYFW runway this week!  Doing her thing and looking absolutely FABULOUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I would love to see Winnie in a Dove Campaign and show the industry even more that uniqueness is so beautiful <hint>!  I would love to hear what you think?
