While visiting my brother in Indiana, I’d finished the next book on my summer book list!
You ever wanted to know what is the best way to land a job? How about making an assessment of your co-workers and your work environment?
How about not to pat yourself on the back too soon, you have to wait in line for that promotion. There’s proper etiquette when sending an e-mail! Or, how do you know when it is time to move on?
All can be found in candid stories and inspirational experiences in this delightful book called Leave Your Mark – Land Your Dream Job. Kill It in Your Career. Rock Social Media; written by the beautiful Aliza Licht, SVP of Global Communications for Fashion’s international designer powerhouse – Donna Karan.
You don’t have to be in the Fashion industry; this book can be useful in any field or genre – when it comes to job hunting, being resourceful and working hard is the common denominator. I’d found myself laughing out loud on how Aliza Licht’s mistakes kind of matched my own job mistakes. Where I too just wanted to show that I was so resourceful and the pressure was on – only ending up wanting to hide under a rock when I got it all wrong!
Aliza Licht shares her choice of making a hard decision to leave the field that did not make her happy to work in a field that she absolutely and completely loves. Although the decision involved a lot of soul-searching; her story allows the reader to relate and take a moment to ask the same question! Reading the book, you will love how she tells the inside scoop on how she captured a 500k Twitter following brilliantly orchestrated for thee @DKNY PR Girl. Just genius!
She also shares the importance of social media and how/what you post impacts your brand, with warnings on why it should be used responsibly. No one ever wants to hear that you failed, however Aliza Licht reassures the reader how those failures are so critical in the learning process and can be used in the future to make important decisions correctly.
“In any industry, how you are perceived weighs heavily on your ability to succeed. If clients don’t like to work with you, you’re not going to get that promotion! Your reputation always precedes you; but the company you work for also contributes to that reputation. The companies listed on your resume are like badges. People judge you not only for your skills, but also where you have worked.”
I had the pleasure of meeting Aliza Licht a few months ago at an inspiring luncheon in Manhattan hosted by Lyss Stern, Mom Moguls Breakfast 2015. Aliza’s book was about to be launched later that evening and here she was just as gracious in sharing about her personal life on being a mother first, work and launching her book. She was amazing!!
I don’t want to give too much away about the book! Please add Leave Your Mark by Aliza Licht to your summer read; you won’t be disappointed at all. It can also be a nice gift to a person who would needs guidance in today’s job hunting. And I might add, it’s the #1 New Release by Amazon.com! 🙂
