Letia Mitchell & Anna Prestia at BareMinerals® Herald Square

Hello everyone! It’s been a crazy week for me…running here and running there!

I have just gotten a moment to bring you up-to-date on what’s been going on! I had a love match!

Yes, you are probably thinking a DATE! A great dreamy guy, right!

Well – it’s sort of a match, but it has to do with makeup!

bareMinerals® had a great event last week! At the Herald Square Store in NYC – the lovely Anna Prestia, Store Manager gave me a call and said why don’t I get a perfect love match for my foundation! LOL I said of course!  I had such a good time last month at the Jonathan Adler and bareMinerals with Instyle Magazine Event there; it seems that it’s the place to be!

For those who are thinking that bareMinerals® would not have their shade, you are absolutely wrong! Wrong! They will match you up. Whether you have a skin disorder, uneven skin tone or a brown girl like me just searching for her shade – your foundation LOVE match can be found!

Lovely Shades

bareMineral®’s foundation is a pure product, made out of pure ingredients – not like a synthetic product which can leave your skin sometimes cakey (yes that’s a word).

So, when passing a bareMinerals® Boutique or counter – take some time and get your match! You will be glad that you did! I was very happy with the results, Anna took real good care of me (I had a cold with allergies, where the Benadryl was wearing off!)!

The atmosphere is oh so exciting, her staff are as friendly and helpful as can be and the best music is always playing.  It was nice time and I can now take my products to the next photo shoot; where I am confident that my shade is available (no scientific mixing this time).  Oh!  Plus I got some more of their glow pads, that I spoke about a few weeks ago and they are doing just great for my skin!

When you get a chance go to their website, www.bareminerals.com.  Here is list of items which I brought, skipping happily!  Thanks Anna!!!

SPF15 Matte Foundation in Deepest Deep
M Aubergine Blush
Original Foundation Primer
Pure Transformation Night Treatment (the Pore closer!)
Soft Focus Face brush
Max Coverage Concealer Brush
Iced Coffee Lip Gloss (love it!!!)
Stroke of Light Eye Brightner (this is used to contour the eyebrows)
Intense Glow Pad Bright Treatment ( to even out skin tone)

The Music of Prince, Michael Dorf Fundraiser at Carnegie Hall NYC

8 Mar

Not a new thing for me! Hanging out in NYC with friends!  However tonight was very special!   It was about music and the Arts!   It’s it just crazy that by hearing a mere note; can be recognizable in  a song completely!!

Or how, I could listen to a song and then remember the next track on an album ’til this day – because I used to play it to its entirety over and over again!  This is what music can do for you!   If often puts you in a happy place or moment that you can remember, because thee song was playing in the background!

Or perhaps, you are going through the woo woo woo moments and you can play that song that describes exactly how you sadly feel!

Or about giving music a try to a young person  – allowing them the opportunity to express themselves either by singing or playing an instrument!    All this is about music!

It is important to allow musical programs to be available to our, your children.  And what a wonderful way to use one of my favorite artists , a legend;  to aid in a musical fundraiser –  by just being honored.  Produced by Michael Dorf, founder of the Knitting Factory and Dorf’s City Winery, musically set the stage for honoring ………..Prince!!!

The Marvelous Prince

Prince Nelson Rogers! An American singer, songwriter, musician, and actor. He has produced ten platinum albums and thirty Top 40 singles during his career; spanning over 3 decades!

Prince established his own recording studio and label; writing, self-producing and playing most, or all, of the instruments on his recordings.   In addition, he has been a “talent promoter” for the careers of Sheila E., Carmen Electra, The Time and Vanity 6 and his songs have been recorded by these artists and others (including Chaka Khan, The Bangles, Sinéad O’Connor, and Kim Basinger). He also has several hundred unreleased songs in his “vault”.

Prince, the honoree of the fundraiser “The Music of Prince” held at Carnegie Hall NYC on March 7th.  Where various artists had their pick to choose from Prince’s roster of songs and perform their rendition at their best!  Even if they could not sing, a poem approach did just fine!

$100,000 + was raised from the patrons who attended, a 100% of the net profit went to the following organizations:

Church Street School of Music & Art

Grammy In the Schools

The Center for Arts Education

The American Symphony Orchestra

Young Audience New York

Little Kids Rock

Fixing Instruments for Kids in Schools

Let’s say it was like a private party in a place where the mere sound of a guitar was emphasized based on the acoustic ability of Carnegie Hall.

I had such a wonderful time, although I sung off key….I was excited, happy to be at Carnegie Hall NYC, in a winter storm, on a Thursday night and having a Prince vibe all around!

Just picture if you will…. dancing, grooving and even the reserved guy next to me was swaying back and forth….cause the music was so damn good! 🙂

Just to get the idea of the night, you had Maya Rudolph, Eric Leeds, thee Wendy Melvoin of Wendy & Lisa, the band was The Roots with QuestLove giving renditions of the following songs:

  1. Purple Rain“,  Purple Rain – The Waterboys, Steve Wickham, Wendy Melvoin
  2. Raspberry Beret”  on Around the World in a Day –  Booker T. Jones w /Choir & Diane Birch
  3. Nothing Compares 2 You” On the Family; Nina Perrson
  4. High Fashion/Mutiny“, The Family – Fdeluxe
  5. Little Red Corvette“, 1999 – Sandra Bernhard
  6. Mountains“, Parade – DeVotchka
  7. When Doves Cry“, Parade – Bhi Bhiman
  8. The Beautiful Ones” – Kat Edmonson
  9. The Cross“, Sign O the Times – Blind Boys of Alabama

Skin Care! It Just Takes A Little Time!

3 Mar

“Letia, we met you at the InStyle event for Bare Minerals and John Adler; where most of us kept admiring your skin! What do you use to keep your skin so good! There’s not a bump on your face (we purposely was looking), which made your makeup look simply flawless? Linda”

I always get the question, what do you do to have such great skin? Suprisingly it’s not a hard regimen, but I stick to it – no matter what!

It’s easy to cover all your bases, small steps to healthy skin!

There’s not one brand of products I stick to, it’s the products which I have found to work best for me. You will have to do some work to find out for yourself.

I usually ask for samples (5 -6) and coupons to test a product by contacting the company. You can never know how a product works after one application, unless you try it for about 3 – 5 days.

However, if when using a product it gives you an immediate skin irritation, STOP using it!!! If you have to use more natural products, less abrasive – you may have to go right in the kitchen and make your own! It’s easy and simple.

Nighttime

  • Put on some soft relaxing music!
  • If you wear makeup – you should never go to bed with makeup on your face! NEVER!!!!!!!!
  • I first fill my sink basin with clear warm water, a green tea bag and place a clean washcloth; immersed in the water for about 3-5 minutes (if you have a towel warmer – you can warm it up that way too).
  • Then taking Albolene, I remove my makeup with a soft tissue. Followed by 2-3 makeup remover cloths; my favorites are by Neutrogena (economy pack from Costco) or e.l.f..
  • Then I use a drop (dime-size) of NARSkin Gentle cleanser and wash my face with my hands (in a in/then out motion). The cleanser is very light and it is infused with wild rose extract and chamomile; also Monoi oil.
  • Then I take the warm washcloth, wring out excess water and let it rest on my face for about 2 minutes. Then I wipe my face; four dabs of pure coco butter to moisturize the face, drink two glasses of water.
  • If it was a extremly tiresome day, I’ll place two tea bags in the warm water with washcloth and use them later to place over my eyes for about 5 – 10 minutes (cool to the touch)…. then say Goodnight!

Daytime

  • Fill my sink basin with clear warm water, a green tea bag and place a clean washcloth.
  • Using my Clarisonic cleansing brush, I use a drop (dime-size) of NARSkin Gentle cleanser and clean face in the four areas (forehead, right cheek, left cheek, then chin and neck). If you do not have a cleansing tool – in one minute circular motions use a wash cloth in the same areas.
  • Take the warm washcloth; wring out the excess water and let is rest on my face for about 2 minutes. Then I wipe my face. Then take magnifying mirror and tweezer – I do the eyebrow inspection to remove any unruly eyebrow hairs.
  • Then I moisturize with RevitaLift® Triple Power™ Deep-Acting Moisturizer* cream on face and neck; apply in a in/then out motion). SPF30 cream on. All followed by drinking two glasses of water.
  • Then I wait about 10 minutes before putting on my makeup. If not going out, then a fresh face it is!

* I did a trial for 2 weeks with samples and used a provided coupon by L’oreal to buy the item! Skin is more supple since using it.

For the Body

  • I use a body brush with a nice body wash when taking a bath or shower. Lately, I’ve been using Dove’s Shea Butter Beauty Bar With Warm Vanilla…the moisturizing is GREAT! But I also use VitaBath and this pure French soap called Marseilles Soap Lavender Soap Bar is to die for! I received 4 bars as a gift, it’s wonderful – a bit pricey – but you can splurge on yourself once in a while!
  • All followed by a warm towel, moisture with good old Vaseline with coco butter!

Now I did purchase a jar of Intensive Glow Pads Brightening Treatment pads from BareMinerals to help even out my skin tone, so I will keep you posted on the results!

Letia’s Skin Care Items

Also, I cannot tell you how essential it is to moisturize and to drink water too! WATER? H2O, yep WATER! The body needs it and the skin needs it even more! And healthy eating too!

There are so many variations in skin types. If your daily routine is not getting the results you need, try going to a certified dermatologist. There are so many advantages in seeing one; where there are many options available to achieving healthy skin!

The last thing is that really helps me with my skin care is to take “ME, ME and ME” breaks to distress, once in a while making a teapot of my favorite tea; such as chamomile or Jasmine and always have a good laugh!!

I hope this was helpful! Thanks so much for writing me and I will be back at the BareMinerals Boutique real soon!!!! 🙂
