Hot Summer Day! Soft Serve vs. Scoop Ice Cream?

17 Aug

It’s 92 degrees outside and I’m loving the air conditioning inside.  I have to run an errand and dread going outside!

So with my water in my bag and shoes changed to flats; on my way.  Finally to  get to the front door and sighed for it feels like a furnace on my face.  I couldn’t help but to say loud “It’s HOT!!!!!!!!!!”

So I did my errand quickly and I didn’t want anything heavy to eat; but something real cool! Ice Cream…that’s it!  Vanilla ice cream!

One block walk and I’m at the ice cream place, crowded of course and I stand on line waiting to be served.  Lo and behold, which I can tell that I’d just walked into a lengthy discussion – just by the look on the people’s faces before me!

“Do you like soft serve or hard scooped ice cream?”  This was the topic. ‘Yeah you….hey a newcomer to the convo!”; said this sweetest looking elderly woman.  I really didn’t care, for I just wanted vanilla…ice cream….to keep cool; real simple!  So I thought, for voices were raised!

They were talking about Mr. Softee, sugar cones, milk, sugar….all the ingredients of ice cream; no taste to has taste.  It seems that it would never end, like a circle… soft serve or scooped????

I really had to go and all eyes were on me, when I said Soft serve!   Then the sweet elderly woman, “See I knew it”. Back in the day………

It was quite comical and what a way to spend the afternoon, talking about a topic loved by so many.  I would have loved to know how it ended, but I really had to go before the scouts come looking! Perhaps it never ended!!

I’ve asked my friends on Facebook which has also started a lengthy discussion too.  So I said, it would be fun to ask here too… what’s your take!   Enjoy your last few weeks of summer and keep cool!

Historians estimate that this recipe evolved into ice cream sometime in the 16th century. England seems to have discovered ice cream at the same time, or perhaps even earlier than the Italians. “Cream Ice,” as it was called, appeared regularly at the table of Charles I during the 17th century. France was introduced to similar frozen desserts in 1553 by the Italian Catherine de Medici when she became the wife of Henry II of France. It wasn’t until 1660 that ice cream was made available to the general public.

Mika Brzezinski! All Things At Once!

9 Aug

mika-brzezinski-21Continuing with my summer book list; it’s about an extraordinary woman!  Mika Brzezinski!  I have a few favorite morning shows and MSNBC’s Morning Joe is one of them, because of this lady!

There’s nothing like being up early in the morning at 5 AM and seeing this beautiful woman, ready and able!   The chemistry between her and her co-host Joe Scarborough is amusing; but yet wonderful to see the respect that they have for one another!

For those tough questions that have to be asked or perhaps when Mika is not satisfied with the answer provided –  I can always count on her to say exactly what I would say; she’s on it!  Or even those times when perhaps she makes me take a few minutes to let it marinate what was said among the round table of guests; ends up transcending to some valid points!

All At Once by Mika Brzezinski

All Things at Once by Mika Brzezinski

This left me wanting to know more about Mika Brzezinski and I didn’t want it from any newspaper clippings, someone’s interpretation or an opinion based on 10 minute segment!  So I decided to hear it from her!

She made it very simple, I read her first memoir!  Who best to tell…. than her!

While sitting on my balcony, with a beautiful summer breeze – I’d finished the last chapter of her book called All Things at Once <very honest and vivid!)>  So vivid, at times I could actually be put right in the scenes she was foretelling of her life.  Her life of humble beginnings and how we sometimes want to separate the things that we do – as if we do it separately.  But in all actuality we do it all the same time!

Although being the daughter of former national security adviser, Zbigniew Brzezinski can open a few doors for you; it was up to Mika to make sure she held her own ground.

We always hear, that you can have it all and then you come to realize; having it all sometimes is not what it seems.  There is a juggling act and since there is only one of you, something or someone is going to be disappointed!  It might be even you, most of the time.

Mika explained how her life involves so many roles and the challenges.  A wife, a mother and person who gives it all in her job.  In many instances, questioning your decisions and often more that not feeling guilty; remembering all that glitters is not gold.  There are so many lessons in this book, where she says it has shaped her into the woman that she is today.

“I may have been woefully unprepared for that assignment, but my biggest mistake was taking it on at all.  Ultimately, that was the greatest lesson: be honest.  It doesn’t matter what kind of work you do, or what level you’re at.  Know your limitations. Know that it is okay to tell your bosses when you are over your head…they don’t teach you this type of thing in college.  It’s a trial by fire sort of lesson: the only way to get it right is to get it wrong first.”

As you read this book, there will be excerpts that you can relate to and have you thinking; everyone has their challenges.  It is so wonderful to get know the woman up early in the morning like I am!

All Things at Once is such a wonderful read. Published over six years ago; any avid reader would know a book is always available for your fingertips and time to escape; anytime!

As long as Mika keeps writing; I am interested in what she has to say; as well as listening to her in the morning!   Two more books to go and with my wish list; to attend one of her “Know Your Value” women conferences for 2016!

Bravo Mika… Thank You!

In 2011, Mika Brzezinski also published another book named Knowing Your Value: Women, Money and Getting What You’re Worth (Weinstein Books 2011). Also told as her personal story, the book discussed women and financial negotiations. It included tips for negotiating salaries and compensation packages. Made the New York Times Best Selling Author list!

Then a followup came in 2013, with Obsessed: America’s Food Addiction – and My Own by Mika Brzezinski another life chapter which she shares, her evolving relationship with food. Being always honest discusses her unhealthy food obsession, battles with bulimia, binge eating and lifelong struggle to be “model thin”.  Besides given a larger perspective on our obsession with food; taking on food manufacturers, advertisers, the media and the government.   MorningMika for Twitter

Bronzer, the Summer Must! @Forever21

26 May

Hello everyone! I’ve received many emails questioning the bronzer I’d used from a Instagram photo I’d posted while away on my mental break in Cancun, Mexico!

The one which I’d practically fell in love with was Forever21’s Love & Beauty All Over bronzer!

Picked it up by chance and I’m so, so glad I did!

Absolutely beautiful at the beach! I’d even put it on my collarbone and hint on my shoulders; when dining out!

The best way to build up bronzer is to start below the cheekbone, closer towards the ear and lightly diffuse it outwards toward the cheek to blur out edges.

Then, sweep the brush to hit the high planes of the face (check, forehead, and chin) using a figure-3 sweeping motion.

Do the same on the other side and then finish down the nose!

Bronzer…..It’s wonderful for all skin tones.  A must get item for the upcoming summer fun; you’ll be hooked!!!!
