One of the ways, is having a Jill Heller PureThread Pop-Up shop!

So a few weeks ago, I’d attended one in Bedford NY, Westchester County.

PureThread gives the platforms and the opportunity to find great brands, but actually meet face to face and engage about an owner’s passion in their work!  About 20 different international and local brands were showcased.

I told Jill, this was like I was in on a secret clue; that led me to great treasure finds and landing with such excitement to be there!  This is where I also met two beautiful ladies, Brit and Susie Ankari!  Mother and daughter team, who are the owners of Leni Penn.

Leni Penn specializes in making vegan/vegetarian friendly faux leather tote bags, as well as high end vintage pieces that have been recreated and modernized.  American made and more importantly, for every tote bag sold – a backpack is donated for a child in need or a purse for a working mother in need!

Every woman needs a go to bag, which can hold everything that you need and yet be stylish. Everything! There could not be a color, style or design you could not find in Leni Penn’s collection.  So I opted to do something different, not the typical selection of a brown, black or even tan!  I decided to be daring and fell in love with Metallic Silver Python tote bag!  Yes, I know – so different for me but I went for it!

Unfortunately the style was not available at the The PureThread Pop-Up shop – it had to be ordered.  Waiting anxiously; it just arrived a couple of days ago and said now I can show and tell; it’s absolutely beautiful!  Roomy in side and is going to be used definitely for this weekend, then again and again!  I LOVE it!

Naomi! I’ve learned…….

17 Nov

“It’s all about personality. Boy, have I learned that during my career! Over the years, my personality has most likely caused me to miss out on some jobs and opportunities, but I also know that my strong personality has helped me secure a spot on some of the biggest runways in Paris, land major magazine covers, get hired for international advertising campaigns, and experience lots of firsts as a black model. It’s my personality that has set me apart from other models and land big campaigns — everything from Prada and Dolce & Gabbana to Dunkin’ Donuts and Milk.”

The beautiful Naomi Campbell was the first black model to appear on the cover of TIME magazine, French Vogue and Russian Vogue as well as the first British black model to appear on the cover of British Vogue. The runway was her domain as she showcased the collections of top designers, including Chanel, Azzedine Alaia, Christian Dior and Versace. http://www.naomicampbell.com

Fun Vintage Barware!

14 Nov

The 70’s!  Joni Mitchell, Miles Davis and Pink Floyd were playing on the radio! M*A*S*H was the popular TV series and Love Story was  also playing in the movies.   Also back in the 70’s barware was a cool way for liquor companies to advertise and bartenders to show their signature drinks!

A couple of weeks ago, I was cleaning out the garage at the old house; where I found a barrel full of vintage bar glasses.  A lot of the glasses were damaged, but I was able to salvage just a few.

Here are the bar glasses I’d found and let’s say it was so much fun looking up the history behind the drinks and vintage glasses!

BarWareRedeyeRed Eye Drink with a shot of Tabasco Sauce (1972)

Pour vodka into a beer glass one half to three-quarters filled with beer. Top with tomato juice, and serve.

HawkShotHawk Shot (1970)

Stir 2oz Smirnoff 100 into a mug of steaming beef bouillon then season with lemon juice!  Ouch!

redbaron Seagram’s Gin Red Baron (1975)

  • 1 1/2 oz. Seagram’s Gin
  • 1 1/2 oz. Orange Juice
  • A dash of Grenandine to taste
  • Lime Wedge

Then I found these mini Booth’s Vintage Shakers!  Love  Them!

CuttySark

I also managed to save one Cutty Sark Whisky glass – so cool!  A range of blended Scotch whisky produced by Edrington plc of Glasgow, whose main office is less than 10 miles from the birthplace of the famous clipper ship of the same name.

Did you know the whisky was created on March 23, 1923 as a product of Berry Brothers & Rudd, with the home of the blend considered to be at The Glenrothes distillery in the Speyside region of Scotland.

These beautiful Carlsberg Beer glasses! Carlsberg is a Danish brewing company founded in 1847 by J. C. Jacobsen with headquarters located in Copenhagen, Denmark.

caarlsberg

How about these lager glass bottles by Grolsch!  A Dutch brewery founded in 1615 by Willem Neerfeldt in Groenlo. In 1895 the de Groen family bought the brewery. They had started their own brewery in Cuijk the Netherlands in early 1800.

Pussycat

The PussyCat glasses were produced in the 70’s as a promotional item from Early Times liquor. If you mailed in the “proof of purchase” plus a certain amount of money, you would receive a Pussycat glass in the mail.

The powered drink mix packet included instructions on what kind of alcohol, soda, juice…etc. to mix with the powered packet to make a Pussycat drink!

MoscowMule Smirnoff Moscow Mule mugs in copper! A Moscow mule is a buck or mule cocktail made with vodka, ginger beer, and lime served in a copper mug garnished with a sprig of mint.

It became popular during the vodka craze in the United States during the 1950s. The name refers to the popular perception of vodka as a Russian product.

Lastly, I tried to research this bar glass, Formula 1.  No luck!   If you know the background on this one; please send me a comment…I would love to know more about it!

It was a shame that I could not salvage more!  But it was much fun, brought back so much memories growing up of the infamous bar that my Uncle Alvin had!  Cheers!
