Maybelline® The NUDES Eye Shadow Palette!

27 Jul

I tried it and I really like it!  I’ve always been daring with colors, that’s why I’m in LOVVVEEE with Maybelline’s COLORsenstional LIPCOLOR in “Make Me Pink“.

So when Maybelline® NEW YORK announced that a new eye shadow palette was coming out a few months ago called The NUDES, I said I would give it a try!

Maybelline® is a beauty brand that has a spectrum of colors which can be popular with any skin tone!

In The NUDES palette, there are 12 shades, which can give you 13 looks.  The shades are described as bold beiges, sultry sands, brazen bronzes, and over the top taupes.  Using it finally; I’d found it instantly to be a HIT!!!!!!

Here is my look that I’d achieved yesterday for a summer evening; getting ready for a night out in SoHo NYC!  I’d just wanted to show you my results with the palette’s shades on my complexion! Added eyeliner and my standby eyelashes……..AMAZING!

Here are Maybelline®’s promotional videos on the many looks. You may even recognize a few of the popular beauty vloggers from YouTube!  Maybelline has even provided their choices for tutorials!   Have fun and if you try the palette; please let me know what you think!

NGAM, Thai Food Happiness in NYC!

27 Jul

Ngam SelectionsAuthentic? Yes!  Delicious?  Yes!  Addictive?  Definitely a YES!

I call it my 2014 summer love, a beautiful relationship!  When I’m in the city or asked for a suggestion to meet up and have lunch…NGAM NYC is the place to go!

Located near Union Square NYC, it’s between 12th and 13th Streets on 3rd Avenue! Ngam NYC Again

As you walk in, you see the skilled sous chefs busy at work – handling orders and smiling!

You then proceed to walk to the rear for seating and without knowing it you become completely relaxed!  Such a great atmosphere!

The staff is awesome and I always find myself asking them for suggestions; for the lunch and dinner menus are different (this is how I know I LOVE this place).

Hong Thaimee, Chef & Owner of Ngam

The food at NGAM is no way finicky, just comforting.

If you love spicy food, they have it!  If not into spicy, there is a dish definitely for you!  And there are items which are Gluten Free! I had the pleasure of meeting the Chef and owner of NGAM, the beautiful Hong Thaimee.

It was on one of my visits, where a photo shoot was in progress where Hong was rolling out many Thai dishes for her upcoming cook book!  A delightful and remarkable woman who took a moment to speak with my friend Lisa and I on her love of cooking.

If you are a foodie like me, you have seen her many times on Food Network’s Iron Chef of America.  Just last week when dining with my niece, her staff said she is currently in Thailand; which I know must be amazing – it’s on my bucket list to visit <smiling, yes again>!

Be sure to view NGAM’s website (below) to see Hong’s achievements and all the amazing things she’s doing now!

Now here are my NGAM favorites!

#1  Chiang Mai Fries” which are made of Kabocha pumpkin and sweet potato! They are fried to perfection; served with a homemade red curry mayo and a sweet and sour peanut relish!  Warning!! They are addictive! Tip: please keep the sweet and sour relish on the side for a special addition to your noodles – if ordered (that is if you have any left!). Chiang Mai Fries

#2 Kale Fried Rice”, where you have a choice of a rice to choose from, I always pick jasmine sautéed with love! Farm fresh kale, carrots, heirloom tomatoes, sweet onion, scallions and crunchy kale chips.

#3 “Peek Gai Tod/Brother Chai’s Chicken Wings” which are these spicy chicken wings served with a tamarind chili sauce and sliced granny smith apples!

#4  My choice of Mah Mah noodles with chicken that is served with lovely Thai basil, pepper, young peppercorn, carrots, broccoli, kale and cauliflower!  The dish is called “Pad Kee Mao” Spicy Drunken Noodle”

Pad Kee Mao" Spicy Drunken Noodle

For drinks, I will include either or both – but no doubt a fabulous Honey Lychee Martini (Tito’s vodka, lychee juice and honey) and a refreshing “Thai Iced Tea”!

Now NGAM also serves brunch, where a friend of mine dined (without ME, I might add!) and had their “Wings & Waffles”.  He raved repeatedly over the dish and told me secretly with such excitement that he ordered it 2x; after the first order! He said what got him happily hooked was the coconut taste in the waffle, it was delicious – a homemade coconut waffle, with marmalade glazed chicken wings and coconut cream!  Here is a picture taken from NGAM’s website, because no picture was provided for it was not even a thought during the duration of happiness which repeated 3x! 🙂

Wings & Waffles!

Now NGAM is also known for a wonderful after-work place to go, for the evening side is also fun and adds to what New York City is all about!

I am planning to have a small gathering with a group of friends at NGAM soon, either partaking in a Thai cooking class, Thai Crab Feast or just dinner; it’s such a challenge with everyone’s schedules; but I am up for it!

If you love Thai food, like a place where you can relax and even in the middle of the day enjoy a Honey Lychee Martini, I recommend NGAM!  You will have a wonderful time!

Food has power—it speaks to your soul. If I can cook the kind of food that will touch people’s souls, well, that’s my goal.+

Hong…Thank You!!!!

CityRow NYC! Fun, Intense with that WOW Factor!

26 Jul
Helaine Knapp

CityRow CEO & Founder, Helaine Knapp

row·ing noun \ˈrō-iŋ\ : the sport of racing in long, narrow boats that are moved by using oars.

Not actually in a narrow boat, not even near the water…..then what are you saying; perhaps as you read the definition!

I’m trying to let you know that I was in the closest adaptation of rowing; in an exercise class at CityRow; right near Union Square in NYC!

Brilliant idea by the CEO and Founder, Helaine Knapp!  A young, enthusiastic and beautiful woman who decided to take a chance on her dream of her way of being fit and went for it!  Approaching her 1 yr. anniversary, it has had the entire city buzzing with excitement – no one else is doing anything like this in the city!

” I’ve taken tons of classes and became really passionate about the group fitness format, but it was probably my background in working at tech start-ups that inspired me to pursue this.   This time it’s my vision, and it’s been amazing to see it come to life.”

For some reason, I was thinking about an oar, but the type of movement of moving water on the side of the boat, first the right and then turn to the left!  Simple, right?  I was so wrong!  WRONG, I say!

An intense workout, where you are pulling utilizing your knees and those muscles you kind of forgotten about on this sexy looking machine called a WaterRower!

Well even though I was not on a lake or river, the rowing machines did have water – which was definitely felt when the endurance was increased.

CityRow – NYC Instructor, Neil Totton

The instructor for our class, was Neil Totton who was so patient and kind; and his that don’t wait now…keep going attitude was so on point!

My heart rate was up in about 5 minutes and I was so amazed that how the water you’re pulling played such an intricate path of feeling like you were actually rowing, but it is stationary!

The class was near shy of an hour-long, which also involved stretching and a little strength training!

When the class was over, I was exhausted from all the activity!  I keep asking jokingly, “Did we reach land yet?”… for I knew all the rowing I did – we had to have reached our destination, we were already in Manhattan, so we had to be in New Jersey, Treasure Island…any place!

I had posted a few pictures on Instagram when taking the class, where I’d gotten so many e-mails, asking was that me!  I’d often replied, yes that’s me with the “after” the workout hairdo and the exhausted look, but I was still smiling!  It really was a whole lot of fun!

Afterwards we all had a little bite to eat with Helaine next door at HU Kitchen!  It was just wonderful talking and spending time with her.  I wish her the absolute best; for she is soaring in the right direction.  I would not even be surprised at all, if there’s major cities in her future!  CEO & Founder Helaine Knapp and Letia Mitchell

Would I go again, I sure would!  The classes are simple and priced reasonably!

The staff is absolutely awesome.  I am planning soon on bringing a friend with me and then go to Union Square’s Farmers Market after.

So if you are tired of your current exercise routine and you are near or perhaps visiting NYC; CityRow NYC is the place to go!

I would like to give a big thank you to Mind|Body|Spirit/Network for their invitation to attend this great class!

No Guilt Anymore! “makeup only™” Towels!

26 Jul

black makeup towel

I wear makeup daily and make it a practice to wash my face thoroughly in the evening before going to bed; without even giving it a thought!

However, when I am away;  either on vacation or staying at a friend’s house  I do worry about my makeup stains that would be left on their towels!

wash faceYes, I do use the makeup towelettes; but there is still residue left on your face and you have to do a thorough cleaning!  You should continue to keep up with your skincare regimen while away.

So, I just found out about these “makeup only™” black wash cloths!!!  I now pack a couple in my suitcase and really have no more regrets!  No more worries for me!

The Turkish Towel Company sells them for a set of 6 and the wash cloths are 13″ x 13″; 100% cotton.

makeuptowel2These would also be a great for a gift, even place in your home’s guest room to set some ease!

A special touch for my makeup artist friends to use on their clients!

I’ve been told some hotels and bread & breakfast inns are in on it too; placing them in their bathrooms!

All such great ideas!

The Turkish Towel Company encompasses a combined 50-plus years of towel know-how. This partnership marries American design, development, and marketing experience to the world-renowned skills and quality of Turkish towel manufacturing. The result is unsurpassed style and quality in every towel that they produce.

Audra McDonald, Lady Day at Emerson’s Bar & Grill….Outstanding!

7 Jul

20140707-223518-81318247.jpgThere is a certain love that I have for Billie Holliday!

I was introduced to her very young, when I was merely 7 years old! I having a protective mother did not allow me to wander too far from our home in Queens! “Don’t you go outside that gate! “, she would say!

And more often than not, I would have to stay in the house! My refuge was our basement, where my dear Uncle Alvin kept his jazz records! 78s they were (I still have them) and our old RCA console record player!

I would listen to Oscar Brown Jr., “Signifying Monkey”, Charlie Parker, Sarah Vaughn and others! One day, he reached in the last sleeve of the folder which held the records and said “When you listen this woman, make sure you listen carefully…for every word is sung with meaning!”

I will never forget when I’d placed the record on the carousel and listened! That’s when I fell in love with Billie Holliday! To this day, it has not ever been a month that goes by, that I don’t listen to her singing! There’s always a song to fit the mood I’m in or always one to be humbled by!

So when I heard that on Broadway, Audra McDonald would appear as thee Billie Holliday, I was very interested and suggested to my dear friend that we should somehow make plans to see it soon!

As the tickets were purchased, the next few days the Tony Awards were televised and Audra McDonald won for her role for Lady Day at Emerson’s Bar & Grill! Best Performing Actress in a Leading a Role!! And as you now know, she made history! Six time Tony Award Winning Actress! But I purposely did not see any of her televised performances.

So upon that great news, made me even more want to see her playing Ms. Billie Holliday! Let me say that I really had no clue on what to expect! For I purposely did not read any reviews! I know the story of Billie Holliday, know her style of singing and even her breathing patterns. I know Billie!

So upon arriving at the Circle In The Square theatre, the set was just as if you were in a nightclub; which was Emerson’s Bar & Grill. The band was there, a 3 piece band (drummer, pianist and bass).

The lights dimmed and there she was …..Audra McDonald; looking like Billie Holliday! Then she stepped on staged and began to sing!

Her voice was EXACTLY like Billie Holliday! I was absolutely floored! She was no longer Audra MCDonald! It was like permission was being granted by the late Billie Holliday to do her life story; a reincarnation so to speak!

There I was being taken back to a time period which I could never have imagined! It felt like I’d stepped into Emerson’s Bar & Grill, no one could see me…but I was there! It’s 1959 in South Philly! The writer, Lanie Robertson adaptation had it dead on!

The favorites were sung , “God Bless the Child”, “Strange Fruit”, ” T ain’t Nobody’s Business If I Do” and classics like “Somebody’s On My Mind” and “Easy Livin”.

Billie Holliday (Audra) spoke of her tremulous life; from childhood to the present time where the drug addiction was sadly taken over her life. For the life she was living, was slowly fading away!

Audra McDonald was outstanding and I couldn’t be happier; for she did an excellent, excellent portrayal of Lady Day! I was not disappointed at all!

What a perfect match, six-time Tony Awarding winner actress and the world’s greatest jazz singer… one room! You couldn’t get any better than that! Lady Day at Emerson’s Bar & Grill has been extended to September 21, so it’s still time!

On March 27, 1948, Holiday played Carnegie Hall to a sold-out crowd. There were 2,700 tickets sold in advance, a record at the time for the venue. Her popularity was unusual because she didn’t have a current hit record. Her last hit was “Lover Man” in 1945, her last on the record charts. Holiday sang 32 songs at the Carnegie concert by her count, including Cole Porter’s “Night and Day” and her 30s hit, “Strange Fruit”. During the show, someone sent Holiday a box of gardenias. “My old trademark,” Holiday said. “I took them out of box and fastened them smack to the side of my head without even looking twice.” There was a hatpin in the gardenias and Holiday, unknowingly, stuck it into the side of her head. “I didn’t feel anything until the blood started rushing down in my eyes and ears,” she said. After the third curtain call, she passed out. April 7, 1915 – July 17, 1959)
