Game of Thrones, Fashion Fleek!

23 Aug

Whether you are a Game of Thrones fan or not, you can’t escape the buzz and references still going on since this past Sunday! Episode 66 Beyond the Wall! Well I’m just as shocked of the loss!

This is a girl who loves a good storyline where somewhere there’s a princess, a castle, some swords, hobbits, lots of ale and dragons! The whole entire episode was epic, the best yet in my opinion in building the audience to feel and await the unexpected outcome!

Well I’m here not to talk about the ending; but the fashion – the detail, the time and creative focus on the costumes! The sets, the scenery and music; all to help you understand each step of the way! A rescue mission from the South to the North, where Daenerys (Emilia Clarke) is dressed in this gorgeous to the floor fur coat. Definitely warm for the ride. The detail reminded of sewn tucks, Albert Nipon tucks but in fur!

If you tune in; have you ever noticed the GOT costume designers always place a beautiful piece of jewelry for Danny to represent her children (Rhaegal, Viserion, and Drogon) or the different stages in her journey.

Sometimes a ring, a necklace…this time a beautiful white gold chain with a clasp of the three dragons laying near her shoulder. Her makeup also so beautiful, from plum hues to wintery rose.

You are probably thinking, you’re so engrossed in what’s going on, you didn’t even notice (I totally understand). For those who love set design and costumes, like I do ….Game of Thrones is so delightful and wonderful! I loved this episode especially.

The season finale will be here soon in a few days; what’s in store…..Sunday, August 27th 9 pm can’t get here fast enough!

Kips Bay Decorator Show House 2014 – Mansion on Madison

25 May

photo 3 (8)It’s less than one week left to see this year’s pick for the Kips Bay Decorator House 2014, and I made it!   I’d chose a Thursday evening to attend, it was rainy and quite humid – but the anticipation was well worth it!  I attend every year, to get ideas and see the designer’s amazing work!  All for a beautiful cause, the Kips Bay children!   Here are some pictures of the rooms.  For a full listing of all the designers, please click: DESIGNERS.  If you in NYC, there’s still time – it closes on May 29th.

The place this year is the Villard Mansion on 51st Madison Ave!

The Villard Mansion was constructed in 1884, designed by the architecture firm McKim, Mead & White three years after they started their company. The houses were commissioned by Henry Villard, then president of the Northern Pacific Railway, shortly before his railroad empire began to crumble. Ownership of the building changed through many hands throughout the century.

In 1968, the Landmarks Preservation Commission designated the complex a historical landmark. Restoration and construction for a new hotel complex was proposed by real estate developer Harry B. Helmsley who constructed the 51-story New York Palace Hotel tower directly behind the original building. The project was designed by architects Emery Roth & Sons and Hardy Holzman Pfeiffer in 1977 and completed in 1980.

The original building was restored in 2003 and office space was furnished for city preservation group The Municipal Art Society, as part of an agreement to save the building from demolition.

Paris! On My Mind! Shopping!

9 May

20130507-222440.jpg

Bonjour! Paris! It’s that time again for me! This time I’m thinking of a strategy to stay really focused! Its so hard! I just received my e-mails about some bargains! What are you talking about! My two spots!

The Saint Pierre Fabric Market is the place to go if you’re on the lookout for discount fabrics and specialty stores. The streets just below the Sacre Coeur Basilica in Montmartre have been famous for discount fabrics for ages. Get off at Anvers métro and head for Rue d’Orsel and the square where you’ll find a big Dreyfus store and the red-awning Reines store. The fabric stores are slowly disappearing and being replaced by souvenir shops, but you can still find some beautiful silks and cottons … and even have curtains made up to bring home the same day!

Location: Place Saint-Pierre and Rue Livingston, 18th arrondissement
Métro: Anvers (Line 2), Barbès-Rochechouart (Line 2, 4)
Hours: Monday to Saturday from 9 am to 6 pm

Catherine Max is another Paris discount store that you should never be missed! One of the largest designer clearance stores in Paris, Catherine Max is also located in the 16th arrondissement, a short walk from the Trocadéro. Top designers call her when they need to clear out extra merchandise, and every Parisian fashionista knows this is the email invitation to receive. This gigantic 12,000 square foot store is an outlet for fashion designers, jewelers, perfumers and high-end home accessories.

You’ll find clothing and accessories for men, women and children. The store keeps merchandise fresh, and they feature a new designer clearance sale every few weeks. Discounts are up to an amazing 80% off! A unique aspect to the store and website is that it features emerging designers and looks that are just hitting the Paris fashion scene. Here you’ll find new names and unique designs daily.

The big sales mean huge crowds of Parisians looking for a bargain. They come back regularly because merchandise turns over rapidly. You must be a member to shop here, for a reasonable price of Euros 20 per year, and you’ll receive the sale announcements by email. Alternatively, sign up at the front desk and start shopping.

Find out more about Catherine Max and her amazing Paris designer clothing discount emporium by clicking here.

Website: http://www.catherinemax.com
Address: 17 Avenue Raymond Poincaré, 16th arrondissement
Métro: Trocadéro (Line 6, 9), Victor Hugo (Line 2)

So I’m going to check my calendar and find out how the airfares are! Perhaps come up with a plan.  This usually means using FaceTime and a lot of I.O.Us!

Now that’s my Parisian moment….so let me have it!

Mercedes-Benz NYFALL 2011 – Betsey Johnson

17 Feb
Fashion designer Betsey Johnson in the 2007 Re...

It’s the last day of NYFALL2011 week; which leaves me to one of my favorites, Betsey Johnson.

No rules, no cohesiveness, no big wedding gowns…..just having fun and giving the non-conventional woman, an option!

Her collection, although may seem outrageous to some…there are outrageous women who just simply love it!

And the teenagers are CRAZZZZZY about her clothes!  She’s done it again!

Plus Size Brides – Of Course There’s A Wedding Gown For You!

26 Jan

I received an e-mail from Sarah, a bride-to-be.  Well Sarah is really stressed about finding a wedding gown!  She’s a beautiful plus size woman and simply dreading it!

First, I know that planning a wedding as it is, is stressful.  However, this bride-to-be should not lose sight that she is getting married.

This is going to be one of thee important moments in her life and finding a gown; can be done…even if she is a plus size!

Let’s set the record straight, the definition of plus size, is any size after a size 10!

The Fashion Industry always reminds us that their sample designs are from size 0 to 3!  From size 4 to 12, sometimes including 14, is the market that most fashion designers will create a collection for distribution to buyers for major stores and boutiques, it’s all about the cost of the textiles and fabrics which drives most of the size determinations.

This is why in some instances, size 16 and up will cost a bit more.  To accommodate, for fuller figure the designs were made a bit wider, this is why the ‘W’ is found next to the size; like 14W.  More and more fashion designers are making the effort to make their designs available for the plus-size woman!  My favorite is Tadashi!!!!!

As for wedding gowns, if Kleinfields in NYC has wedding gowns for the plus size woman up to a size 30.  Then you have to believe, there are other stores which are meeting the demand and affordable too!

So, don’t be ridiculous, you can have a beautiful wedding gown!!! <I’m talking to Sarah!> And…. don’t forget on-line shopping is a wonderful option.  YOU will find a wedding gown!  Your fiancée fell in love with your curves, so take the time to accentuate them with a wedding gown you love!  There are men who love curves,  you know!

Now during Fashion Week, most designers will feature a wedding gown in their collection or if they feature their bridal collection in runway show.  The Spring 2011 collections for most designers has already been featured and the designs are available in most bridal boutiques today.

Let’s talk about cost!  Yes, you may be thinking “designer”, this out of my range, budget, pocket…don’t have that kind of money.  Well many of the designers are teaming up with bridal retailers to offer their designs, making it more affordable.

Top designer, Vera Wang announced she would be doing just that with David’s Bridal, she is teaming up with the retailer starting this spring.  A collection of twenty wedding gowns will be available,  ranging from $600 to $1,500.   Not bad, for her bridal designer line start at $4,000 to $35,000!!!!!  And….plus sizes will be included! I hope you are smiling!

Here’s a few sites:  Kleinfields, David’s Bridal and Light In The Box.  Bara Luxe has beautiful wedding gowns too, featured in video!  I believe Sarah just needed some reassurance, now she can start looking!  And…for those who are being apprehensive about your curves too, start looking too!  So there!!!
