2012 Kips Bay Decorator Show House

9 Jul

Last month, the Kips Bay Decorator Show House closed on the 14th of June.  The location was different this year, at the Aldyn which is on the West side between 62 and 63rd St on Riverside Bouvelard in New York City. Gorgeous, gorgeous views!

Each year, an Opening Gala cocktail party is held to kick off the event; where the media, interior designers and decorators mingle, awaiting anxiously to see the designs!  I was so excited to be there!

Under a beautiful tent, there was music with the latest hits, cocktails, food and such a great energy in the air!  All in anticipation for the revealing of the 21st and 22nd floors; where two duplex apartments were magically transformed.  So much hard work and effort, all for a wonderful cause.  The designers were tired, however very happy their deadline was met, right down to the very second!   “It is exciting and at the same time the pressure was on.”, Jamie Drake of Drake Design Associates (he designed one of my favorite rooms)http://www.drakedesignassociates.com/

There were many sponsors for the event, remember number painting?  For charity, one of the sponsors – Benjamin Moore Paint allowed guests to select their colors and paint the corresponding color! I took the painting a little too serious though (stay in the lines!!)!    The staff was so wonderful, they even took the time to take a picture, before I headed up to see all the designs.

And oh! Emily and Elizabeth Hazelwood of Urban Vintage Cafe in Brooklyn were there and I didn’t even know it!  I guess we were destined to meet, for I’d meet them three weeks later!  It’s such a small, small, small world!

This event goes back to 1973 when several dedicated women’s committee members of the Kips Bay Boys & Girls Club launched the Decorator Show House to raise funds for much-needed after school and enrichment programs for New York City children. Over the course of four decades, this project has raised in excess of $17 million and grown into a “must destination” for thousands of design enthusiasts and is recognized for launching interior design trends throughout the world. Today, the Kips Bay Boys & Girls Club is one of the most prominent and responsive youth development agencies in New York City and a “flagship” of the Boys & Girls Clubs of America.

I had a wonderful time, a video is below to show you a few of the rooms!  See the Missoni room, it’s really nice!
